Description
With chapters written by the preeminent leaders in the field--including Aaron T. Beck, Otto F. Kernberg, Lorna Smith Benjamin, Theodore Millon, and Richard Depue--this volume is the first to bring under one cover the principal theories of personality disorder, including cognitive, psychoanalytic, interpersonal, evolutionary, and neurobiological. Editorial Reviews Review "The theories are presented fairly, and the editors have provided a fascinating introduction to the field." --Dale L. Johnson in Science Books and Films "A valuable and much needed volume that will be of interest to all with a serious interest in the field. The thorough and clear descriptions of the major theories of personality disorder make this an essential reference for all professionals involved in treating personality disorders. At the same time, the volume makes an important contribution to the field by drawing attention to the importance of theory and by articulating the similarities and differences among competing theories." --W. J. Livesley, M.D., F.R.C.P. (C), Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry, University of British Columbia "This is an important and timely book that addresses a critical need in the field of personality disorders. Its focus on theories of personality disorders, with contributions by many of the most innovative leaders in the field, results in an outstanding integration of much of the cumulative knowledge in the field. This book could well serve as the guide for theory, research, and practice in the area of personality disorders for many years to come. It should be read by all with an interest in this area." --M. Tracie Shea, Ph.D., Brown University "I found Major Theories of Personality Disorder to be an invaluable addition to clinical graduate training. Breaking from the traditional DSM-based overview of personality disorders, the book presents the major theories as reviewed by the major theorists. This allows for up to date integration of all aspects of human functioning to be understood in the context of maladaptive personality. I recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn or teach about what lies beyond the DSM categorical classification of personality disorders." --Aaron L. Pincus, Ph.D., Department of Psychology, Pennsylvania State University; Class: Personality Disorders, graduate-level About the Author John F.
